Although Romney was discussing the ability of people to fire their health insurance companies when the companies do a bad job, his rivals are using the comment to suggest Romney meant that he enjoyed firing people when he worked for Bain Capital, a private-equity firm that does mergers and acquisitions.

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, campaigning in Concord, N.H., said that Romney “enjoys firing people. I enjoy creating jobs.”

Wasserman Schultz also said, “Mitt Romney believes America should join a race to the bottom based on loopholes and outsourcing. He believes that Wall Street should be able to write its own rules again and pursue whatever means necessary to create profits, regardless of the consequences for middle-class families.”

Now we know how idiotic politics has gotten.

Marble Mouth is at it again, and republicans against this comment, are you kidding me !!!!!!!!!

What person in there right mind wouldn't want to "FIRE" their insurance company for incompetence and for looking out for only "Profits".

How Idiotic, moronic, and ideologic have we sunk ?

Liberal/Progressives are digging for anything as usual and Republicans are just .....well .....getting stupidly politically correct.

And this "Bain" crap they keep touting. How many companies were saved because of tough love ?

    Pat-#@!&!#@

You complain that his comment has been taken out of context but Romney should have had the political savvy to know better than to utter the words "I like to fire people", particularly in this economy.

And the notion that you can fire your insurance company is absurd. The next insurance company will will qouge you just as badly as the one you "fired".

Is there a video or audio clip that you can point me to where he says that? I've yet to hear him utter those words.

Trump likes to fire people too, he even did a TV reality show about firing people, good thing he didn't run.

Not to mention the march by GOP funded "tea party" governors like Walker in Wisconsin or Kasich in Ohio or others, who went after job cuts by attacking unions & collective bargaining in order to eliminate public sector jobs. In spite of of all the job cuts neither of these "tea party" governors have done well at replacing those jobs or creating jobs. Walker has the worst record of all on jobs with Kasich not far behind on a terrible job creation record.

All the GOP candidates from this year and last year are running on a "you're fired" campaign, whether they picked it up from Trump or not they seem to think that adding to the unemployment lines doesn't have a cost.

They are all perfectly willing to say they are firing people to balance budgets but they never tell anyone what the cost to the government is for adding thousands more to unemployment.

The constant threat of firing employees is such a great motivator.

    From MIT school of business

    Theory X Managers

Theory X managers have the belief that generally people are lazy and so motivating them is necessary. Now, it can be of two types - negative or positive. Positive ones include presenting incentives or awards for outstanding performances, while the negative one includes instilling a sense of fear in the employees. The threat of firing them from their workplace due to lack of performance is instilled in the employees. The manager generally does not trust the employees as he thinks that his employees are not good at taking responsibilities. In almost every organization or every place, one can see the instances and examples of it.

That's why they form unions. Less work for more pay, guaranteed ! Whew, thank goodness for Unions huh.

And you wonder why Owners and Managers don't trust employee's.

I am not a member of a union, That being said i would much rather live in a country with them, Than without them! Unless you would like to go back to the time when we didn't have them! Good times......

I live in a right to work state.Trust me not so great! And this is hardly a reason to hate unions all together! No one is saying they are perfect. But i would rather try to change them than do away with them all together. Or do you long for the days of no child labor laws, Minimum wage etc.....

Hasn't done anything to help our economy it has done what it was intended to ,keep wages low.

The minimum wage does not keep wages low, Companies do! The minimum wage insures that if you work you can at least survive off of what you earn. even if that is just barely......

Yes, I read what you posted. Your insinuation was that without unions, we would go back to having no child labor laws, no minimum wage.

          That is patently ridiculous.

And why is this ridiculous? Do you even remember history? In fact not long ago buy history standards, There were no child labor laws and no minimum wages! After what we have just went through with the economy, are you going to honestly tell me this can't or won't happen if we remove the unions? Now that is ridiculous!!!

The way our entire society has become a watch dog for everything, no, it won't happen again.

Way to many groups out there today, that keep track of anything business, and it's not Unions I'm speaking about either.

Heck, parents of school children raise a stink if they think their kids are disciplined in school wrong.

Actually, there are heavy regulations. Government just doesn't do a good job in enforcing those regulations. Their so bad at it, they have to add more regulations on top of regulations, so "we" feel better. Seems there are so many regulations that government has put on the books, they can't keep up with what's what. :)

The unions came, they made change, good change. Keep the changes, most of which is now Federal Law and get rid of the pocket pickers. That is all the are these days. It is the unions that are screwing the workers over and driving jobs out of the country. Who keeps stealing pension funds?Who keeps putting forth the violent vibes? The unions know that their time is over in this capitalistic society, they were needed to get labor laws on the right track, now they have become nothing but an unnecessary evil.

A lot of the older union people don't want to hear it, they've been getting their pension checks and some of their medical. They just don't realize how hard it is for those who are just reaching retirement age.. Pensions checks are smaller than expected, medical coverage has become a joke, getting whatever benefits you can is quite often tougher than it is for Vets.

Just like the government of today is not like the one we knew as kids, neither are the unions.

Bingo. That is what I was trying to get to.

They were a necessary force for good in their day. Now, they are simply a drain on the economy that we can ill afford, the majority of the regulations against child labor, requiring workers to work extremely long hours without breaks, the minimum wage laws, the necessity of safety in the workplace...all of these are laws now, workers are protected from the atrocities that existed at the time of the Triangle Waist fire...and the unions are simply adding extra costs to American business and government, with the union leaders and the politicians they bribe pocketing the cash.

To interject a little note on topic (sorry, I know we have veered off course here, Greg) I was pleased to see that on The View, Whoopi Goldberg pointed out that the attack ads against Romney for the "I like to fire people" comment were taking his remark way out of context and were, therefore, patently dishonest.

I don't "like" to fire people, but I darn sure want to retain the ability to do so if they aren't doing what I hired them for...and I for certain for sure don't want a Union telling me that I have to continue to pay someone who is doing a lousy job, costing me customers and damaging the reputation of my company simply because they have a "contract" that requires me to continue to pay them no matter how lousy a job they are doing!

Which, IMHO...is one of the main reasons we have such a problem with education in this country...you can't get rid of crappy teachers and since you have to pay them no matter how poor a job they are doing...you can't afford to hire good ones. But I digress again...
