NEWSWEEK: Why Are Obama's Critics So Dumb?

Here is the key line:

But given the enormity of what he inherited, and given what he explicitly promised, it remains simply a fact that Obama has delivered in a way that the unhinged right and purist left have yet to understand or absorb.

In one sense there is a reason why critics of Obama on the right and left seem to contradict each other. At times we really do seem to be getting the worst of both worlds. The middle and working classes get the heartless layoff notices of capitalism, while the richest see their losses "socialized" away.

It's a problem Obama did not invent, but one he has intensified. And it isn't "dumb" to say so.

And if you filter out the most insane things said about Obama there is a line of criticism that seems pretty smart.

Here's how it goes:

Barack Obama has always wanted to fit in. And has partially treated his journey to the presidency not as a political venture but one of personal discovery.

Upon entering office, instead of focusing on a jobs issue, he ditched all of his bipartisan rhetoric in order to get his health-care reform passed. To do so, he essentially threw out his promise to keep lobbyists from power and he cut deals with the insurance and drug industries that guarantee them customers and near monopoly pricing. His deal included all number of gimmicks to "juice" the savings numbers and hide the costs. It introduced almost no price competition into health-care meaning that health-care will continue to consume more and more of the economy.

Critical Thinker (Maine)

I'm going to have to read the entire Newsweek article. What was posted made my head spin. Is it just me or did the author talk in circles?

Personally I do not think Mr Obama was perfect in the way he handled the bail outs. However, he was up against big money and all the republican puppets. He did what he had to do, unfortunately the anerican middle class lost.

Throughout everything though, I still HATE the republican party.

Good point or points greg. Even though health care was one issue that needed to be addressed and some sort of solution or beginning of a solution started, what many of us voted for was a change in the way Washington conducted business. The sleaze, the lobbyists, the deal making, our leaders living in one world and expecting us to live by a different set of rules made all of us sick. All those things are still a problem as is the huge problem of health care for the general public. Obama bit off more than he could chew, especially with so few willing to help him from his own party. When the opportunity was there to run with the ball and create a new beginning and end the Bush-isms, so many were more worried about their own re-election and not upsetting the status quo, that nothing got done. Then the GOP got a foot in the door and everything went to hell. Maybe that is where Clinton succeeded and Obama failed is that Clinton never tried to put forth the next New Deal, New Frontier or whatever grand legacy a president could preside over. Clinton kept it mostly simple and was good for the country. He had the country on good footing to build and make the changes to bring this country to even greater successes. I will vote again for Obama, but I hope he keeps it simple and seizes those opportunities for change that are lying in front of him, get back to the open government he talked about and clean up Washington rather than trying to be a great President.

I have a feeling alot of folks are turning blue on that. Obama has been a Big Corp. Provider so far.

I have to disagree with you there. Many of his own party were told they had to walk in lockstep with Pelosi and Reid and many Dems"walked the plank" to get his crappy Obamacare passed, and they summarily got voted out in 2010.

get back to the open government he talked about and clean up Washington rather than trying to be a great President.

He has been anything but. He has done nothing of the sort - he has done exactly the opposite of transparency and cleaning up Washington. Here's just a few examples:

Obama has received more contributions from those wealthy Wall Street "fat cats" (he calls them) than all of the GOP:

c...he just named his new COS following Daley, who was a former hedge fund exec who made a bundle off the deal (now there's a shocker)

Just as I thought. Because they dared to question the holiness of his edicts. Nice propaganda piece Newsweek. Thank you though, one more magazine that can go directly from mailbox to tinderbox without any stops.(Not really mind you. I would not pay for that liberal rag with your money)

It's funny both Newsweek and Silicon Alley Insider seem to want to talk out of both sides of their mouths about this article. On some issues, yes, Obama is completely incompetent. Other issues, he's a dictator-wannabe taking advantage of opportunities given him by both sides of the aisle. Finally, in still other issues, he's out to destroy America as we know it.

Let's take the first. He's shown he is incompetent when it comes to foreign policy by 1) not supporting the Iranian opposition when they rose up; but then 2) started throwing our military might around in Libya which was the exact same situation but without the Theocratic government.

He's shown he's an opportunistic dictator-wannabe by 1) saying "I will not use signing statements on anything that I don't agree with." during the 2008 campaign, 2) saying that he was against the indefinite detainment of American citizens by the US military no matter where they are caught, and 3) signing the Defense Appropriation Act containing the law allowing for the indefinite detainment of American citizens even if caught on US soil as long as they are declared "terrorists" and just adding a signing statement that he wouldn't use that power. This shows that Obama's word is meaningless and lends credence to the idea that he is someone wanting to accumulate power, as is his stance on the Internet Piracy laws under consideration.

And, finally, he is out to destroy America as we know it by spending so much money without thought or care. Just look at the DOE Stimulus Loan program that went to multiple failing "green energy" companies that weren't properly vetted and had big time Obama or Democratic donors on their boards. In fact, at least 2 of the companies have the exact same people on their boards and one of those 2 companies (Solyndra) was raided by the FBI for possible criminal activity!
