In an interview with “Clerks” director Kevin Smith, Lovitz, a registered Democrat who voted for Obama in 2008, bashed the president for his class warfare rhetoric and the notion that the wealthy don’t pay their fair share in taxes.

Lovitz also criticized Smith for “masquerading as a 99 percenter” — a reference to the Occupy Wall Street movement that the director said he supports.

But given the enormity of what he inherited, and given what he explicitly promised, it remains simply a fact that Obama has delivered in a way that the unhinged right and purist left have yet to understand or absorb.

In one sense there is a reason why critics of Obama on the right and left seem to contradict each other. At times we really do seem to be getting the worst of both worlds. The middle and working classes get the heartless layoff notices of capitalism, while the richest see their losses "socialized" away. 

It's a problem Obama did not invent, but one he has intensified. And it isn't "dumb" to say so. 

Remember when Barack Obama said that the Tea Party “expresses the frustrations that the American people feel?” Oh, wait. That wasn’t the Tea Party he said that about. It was Occupy Wall Street, the group that liberal writer Michael Scherer described as “marginal, rag-tag, ill-defined and without focus.”

The president should really keep his distance from the Wall Street protesters. Once they figure out what—and whom—they’re really mad at, he may want to make sure he’s nowhere in sight.

President Barack Obama, facing waning confidence among Americans in his economic stewardship, plans some $300 billion in tax cuts and government spending as part of a job-creating package, U.S. media reported on Tuesday.

Obama would offset those short-term costs by calling on Congress to raise tax revenues in a deficit-cutting proposal he will lay out next week, the news agency reported, without citing sources.
